Store robber took cigarettes, $15
Von buycigarettes, 16:00A woman who allegedly stole cigarettes and a small amount of cash during a Springfield convenience store robbery was arrested at her home, located right around the corner.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Ebonie Y. Reed, 32, was arrested for robbing the New Dutch Variety store on Orange Street Sunday afternoon.
Just before 1:00 P.M., Delaney says police received a report that the store had been robbed by a heavyset Hispanic woman. The clerk told officers that the robber entered the store demanding he open the cash register and give her five packs of Newport cigarettes. She said that she was hiding a gun underneath her sweatshirt, and that she would shoot the clerk.
According to Delaney, the clerk cooperated by giving her cigarettes and opening the register. The woman reached in, stole $15 dollars, and left. A witness followed her to 193 White Street, which is located less than a block away from the store.
Officers arrived at the home and found Reed (whose residence is listed as 193 White Street) and the items stolen. Delaney says Reed was identified by the clerk as the woman who robbed the store.
She is scheduled for arraignment Monday in Springfield District Court on an armed robbery charge.
